  • Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) "is an international open data infrastructure, funded by governments. It allows anyone, anywhere to access data about all types of life on Earth, shared across national boundaries via the Internet" and "provides a single point of access (through this portal and its web services) to more than 400 million records, shared freely by hundreds of institutions worldwide, making it the biggest biodiversity database on the Internet."

  • JSTOR Global Plants – "Global Plants is a community-contributed database where worldwide herbaria can share their plant type specimens ... Global Plants contains the contributed collections of more than 300 herbaria from around the globe. Herbaria preserve plant type specimens that are used for the study of botany, ecology, and other plant science disciplines. Plant type specimens are in great demand for scientific study because of their pivotal role as original vouchers of nomenclature. They also act as a historical record of changes in various flora. ... Researchers and students can also access reference works and primary sources—such as collectors’ correspondence and diaries, paintings, drawings, and photographs—contributed by partners. ...  Institutions can gain access to Global Plants through an annual access fee."

  • Biological Collection Access Service for Europe (BioCASE) – "the new BioCASE Portal, providing access to the European biodiversity data in the GBIF system. It is complementary to the GBIF portal in that it provides more detailed information about specimen and observation data, especially when these are based on the rich ABCD standard".

  • Internet Directory for Botany (IDB) – Alphabetical List (Brach, A. R. & Liu, S. 1996- ).

  • Ecology WWW page: List of WWW Sites of Interest to Ecologists "As a service to students, teachers, researchers, and WWW surfers interested in ecology, this list was compiled by Anthony R.
